Scalp Micropigmentation Provides Bold Look, But is it Suitable for Everyone?

There are multiple reasons for baldness in both men and women. Most of the time plethora of factors work in sync to cause this health issue. In a wide range of cases, most people face hair loss inevitably due to the natural aging process. Before choosing the SMP process as an available option for a new aesthetic look, one must be well acquainted with basic facts. As listed below, various factors might cause hair loss to occur.

Causes for Hair Loss

Genetics are responsible for influencing Male Pattern Baldness in a big way. Dihydrotestosterone comes into play as a genetic sensitivity to cause MPB. Ninety-five percent of the time, loss of hair in men or women is a direct cause of androgenic alopecia (Male Pattern Baldness), according to research conducted by the American Hair Loss Association. Male Pattern Baldness is a fierce hereditary issue considering that before 21 years of age, 25 percent of men with inherited MPB start experiencing baldness. Furthermore, around the age of 35, men will at least experience baldness for sure.

Medical factors also play a vital part in causing hair loss. Alopecia Areata is a medical condition that leads to baldness in an unnoticeable way. It is quite a rare condition but still bears a severe adverse effect. It occurs without detection when follicles are deemed as a threat by the immune system and consequently attacked.

Another factor can be stress and trauma that, in medical terms, is called Telogen Effluvium. Even though this chronic condition is temporary, it is still not uncommon to cause a long term effect. Thus in such cases, it will necessitate a fast call to action.

Baldness also occurs as a result of an unhealthy lifestyle and nutritional choices. Unhealthy diets, no exercise, and smoking habits also lead to the inability to grow natural and healthy hair.

Understanding Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP)

The research literature is indicative of the origins of Scalp Miicropigmentation (SMP). Although SMP was initiated in its current form in 2002, research points to its conceptual utilization in different ways back to 1970.

SMP process

Scalp Micropigmentation is primarily intended for hair follicles restoration stimulating bald areas to strength and density. SMP is a popular treatment method due to its effectiveness in dealing with severe MPB and minor thinning conditions. It can be considered to be like Microblading to some extent, but there is a caveat involved in SMP. It uses an electric tattoo device to ensure value-added results because higher power is needed to penetrate the thick scalp skin. So, microneedles are used in SMP to tattoo the scalp.

The hair density in the SMP process is the determinant of price and the process duration. Density gives an idea as to the number of follicles and color usage. The process is designed to take extra precautions for skin protection in specific skin issues like dry or highly sensitive skin. The process will entail the proper blending of more follicles and additional considerations in case of severe skin issues like scars. Scar treatments can be expensive. However, there is no need to worry. Many quality SMP-related clinics provide financing choices that are set over manageable periods.

Costs in SMP

There are various numbers of factors that define the costs involved in an effective SMP process. Elements like country locations for a clinic’s country location, clinic choice, and procedure type. In the case of scarring issues alone, the cost can be 1,200 USD To 2,500 USD. In the USA, a standard multiple session procedure can cost from 2,000 USD to 4,000 USD.

The time frame of SMP Effects

SMP treatment is a permanent treatment due to a highly slow rate of fading. Depending on one’s point of view, this effect can be an advantage or a disadvantage. Usually, appropriate repeat treatment is needed after a four to six years timeframe.

Scalp Micropigmentation Pros

The best stress-free solution in the baldness treatment based market is SMP due to its high effectiveness, lack of recurring maintenance costs, and highly organic nature. The significance is measured in terms of versatile procedure, i.e., diverse baldness issues. Scalp Micropigmentation carries a highly organic nature in many cases. Finally, the lack of maintenance recurs in very few cases. Even if it occurs in rare cases, the cost is relatively cheap.

On the other hand, SMP can be perceived as stressful due to some factors. SMP look can experience an increased fading rate because it is sensitive to ultraviolet rays from the sun. People with the inclination to keep long hair will be at a disadvantage because of SMP’s procedural requirement. Finally, being a permanent treatment SMP requires laser treatment for removal. Laser treatments can be quite costly, time-consuming, and painful.

Scalp Micropigmentation Compatibility

A thorough assessment of the Scalp Micropigmentation process will help decide on its compatibility with patients’ needs. There might be some reasons for hesitations for deciding on the ones stated above. However, holistically speaking, if one conducts a simple cost-benefit analysis, he/she can easily observe that benefits will outweigh the costs by a large margin. In many cases, special aesthetic look conditions necessitate SMP.

It might be hard to notice the clear benefits of using SMP treatment. Let us look at the reasons that the rest of the article will elaborate on below!

Uses of Scalp Micropigmentation

Many patients seeking the treatment assume that SMP is aimed at people with hair loss to achieve an added texture to thinning hair. Moreover, consequently improve the freshly shaved aesthetic look. However, in contrast, the reality is that SMP can be utilized for various reasons, e.g., receding hairlines can be edged up with SMP. It is just a single example. Let us look at multiple other benefits:

  • Blending Birthmarks
  • Burn and surgery-related baldness
  • Density addition to thinning hair
  • Hiding scars resulting from transplants
  • Blending moles, scars, or blemishes
  • Managing loss of hair from HIV, cancer, or lupus
  • Usage by women to diminish the contrast between head and scalp.

Is SMP Suitable?

For a patient reading this article, there is a high probability that they are considering Scalp Micropigmentation. Many patients experience impressive results as a result of SMP and almost always report high rates of satisfaction. If benefits stated in the preceding sections fulfill patients’ needs, they will most likely benefit from SMP. In any case, booking a consultation for detailed suggestions and inquires is the best way forward. Assessments are carried out on an individual basis for every patient.

However, before the consultation stage, it is essential to understand some facts about the process expectations. These facts and consultation will help the patient address the question, Is Scalp Micropigmentation Suitable?

While answering the compatibility question, one should realize that SMP provides solutions to many hair loss issues. Resultantly, it is growing in popularity every passing day. The most appropriate candidates will most likely subscribe to the applications explained below.

Scalp Micropigmentation provides an excellent cover for baldness with a modern aesthetic look via technique, a special needle, and pigment. SMP is a perfect remedy for hair loss and the best reason for a person to opt for it. It does not matter if one has lost hair all over the scalp or just in a few places. SMP is useful in hiding the more comprehensive hair parts for women, especially. In general, this is the first significant indication that hair is headed towards thinning. So SMP can come into play and give the best repair solution that patients’ hair deserves. A person who has undertaken a hair transplant is left with scars usually. Transplant scars are another primary reason to use SMP for camouflaging the scars. SMP is also pursued by people who are interested in adding density to their already existing hair. Lastly, the SMP procedure is ideal for restoring the receding hairlines. At our HairLossClinic or HISHAIRClinic based in Toronto, our experts would suggest a natural-looking hairline. However, they are happy to oblige any fashionable look a patient may opt to pursue.

On the other hand, we must also advise taking caution in certain conditions. People with skin conditions should take special care when seeking treatments like SMP. Our Special trichologist consultation specialists can help determine if SMP is a compatible treatment or not. People affected with skin conditions like psoriasis may experience quick fading of pigment. Also, people with alopecia should take care, but their condition can also be assessed on an individual case basis. Pregnant women should avoid this procedure because there might be unwanted complications.

Conclusion

In conclusion, Scalp Micropigmentation is a medical cosmetic tattoo treatment that is entirely non-surgical and non-invasive. It is best suited for patients (both men and women) suffering from permanent or any other form of baldness due to thinning hair, cancer, HIV, or alopecia. In the past, SMP has proven to be quite useful in building confidence and self-esteem via a new modern aesthetic look. The treatment will provide a confident, daring, and bold buzz cut/freshly shaved head look instead of the patient’s previous partial or utterly bald look.

As every patient carries a distinct scalp and face shape, so if one considers SMP, they should know that it is not one solution for all kind of deal. Every individual need consultation assessment based on their respective particular case. At our clinics, SMP practitioners work hard with extreme care to provide a natural and undetectable hairline and a fuller appearance after proper consultation and customized design specifications. SMP® Scalp Micropigmentation Vs Tricopigmentation – Which is better?

SMP® Scalp Micropigmentation and Tricopigmentation are both treatments that simulate the look of real hair follicles by injecting microscopic specialized pigmented ink into the superficial layer of the dermis, in balding or bald areas of the scalp.

What is Scalp Micropigmentation?

SMP® Scalp Micropigmentation was developed in the UK by Ian Watson of HIS Hair Clinic over 17 years ago.  HIS Hair Clinic is recognized as the leader in SMP® Scalp Micropigmentation with a large number of SMP® clinics worldwide, including Canada at HIS Hair Canada | https://Hairtattoo.ca. In fact, SMP® is a registered trademark with HIS Hair Clinic.  Through intensive research and development, Mr. Watson has helped adapt the techniques he learned to create innovative SMP® scalp pigmentation techniques.  He personally underwent the very first SMP® procedure, and the amazing results are there for all to see.

The SMP® hair loss treatment is available for both men and women.  It provides a solution for those suffering from general hair loss, various forms of alopecia or with scalp scars, including those as a result of hair transplant surgery. Of the solutions available, few are as permanent, immediate, non-invasive, realistic, hassle-free, and cost-effective as the SMP® Scalp Micropigmentation procedure.

What is Tricopigmentation?

Tricopigmentation is a temporary version of SMP® that does not last as long as scalp micropigmentation. It shares many similarities as SMP® but has some differences.   Tricopigmentation was developed by Milena Lardi of Beauty Medical in Milan, Italy in 2008.  The major difference between SMP® Scalp Micropigmentation and Tricopigmentation is the ink being used. SMP® Scalp micropigmentation uses a unique kind of pigment that does not fade much over time, and it is considered a permanent solution for concealing hair loss.  Tricopigmentation on the other hand, uses a different type of ink that begins to fade after several months, and the treatment needs to be reapplied every one or two years to maintain the look of the hairline.

Why would anyone want a temporary SMP® treatment?

Tricopigmentation has been marketed as a “try it” before going permanent solution for those who are afraid they may not like the permanent SMP®. The temporary pigments used in Tricopigmentation are designed to fade out after 12-24 months, whereas SMP® Scalp micropigmentation can last 8 to 10+ years without a touchup.  The other theory is that as men age, their hairline recedes, so as the pigment fades, Tricopigmentation can be reapplied to mimic the receding hairline as you age over the years.

The one thing that the Tricopigmentation marketers does not mention is that a permanent SMP® can be removed with laser and non-laser tattoo removal methods with excellent results.  This is because the ink in SMP® does not penetrate into the dermis as deep as traditional body tattoos, making removal much easier.

So, is Tricopigmentation a good idea?

It all depends if you do not mind redoing the treatment every 1-2 years and paying for the treatments over time. At HIS Hair Canada | Hairtattoo.ca, we offer both types of inks, the Black:Black permanant SMP® ink and the temporary Light:Black ink.  We explain to clients that a SMP® procedure is a permanent solution but can be removed in the future if clients decide they want to alter their look, for example to move back their hairline. Knowing this, we seldom have request for Trichopigmentation, although it is an option.

The main advantage of Tricopigmentation is that is a temporary solution.   If you do not like the procedure, it will eventually fade away after 1-2 years.  The other advantage is that as your treatment fades away, you can redo it to match your age by doing a receding hairline. So, in your 20’s your hairline may look different than when you are in your 60s, and you can adjust it every 1-2 years.

Being a temporary solution, the initial price for Tricopigmentation is often cheaper than SMP®. However, over time, Tricopigmentation works out to be more expensive if you factor in the number of treatments you need to do.

The main disadvantage of Tricopigmentation is that is a temporary solution.  The fact that you need to come and redo the procedure every 1-2 years is inconvenient, and the costs involved in paying for all those treatments every few years. The hope is that if you like the Tricopigmentation procedure, you can always switch to the more permanent SMP® after the initial treatment fades.

The other main disadvantage of Tricopigmentation is in the ink. While laser and non-laser tattoo removal techniques can be used to remove or fix a bad SMP® job, the pigment used for Tricopigmentation makes it impossible to remove until they allow the Tricopigmentation treatment to naturally fade away by itself.

The main advantage of SMP® is that it is a permanent trouble-free solution to hair loss.  Once done, you do not need a touch up for at least 8 years to 10+ years.

There is no real disadvantage of SMP® if you factor in the fact that the treatment is reversable with laser and non-laser tattoo removal procedures.

HIS HAIR CLINIC UK OPENS NEW SMP SCALP MICROPIGMENTATION IN TORONTO, CANADA

SMP scalp micropigmentation, was developed by internationally-recognized HIS Hair Clinic.  Their experience, expertise and results are widely regarded as the best in the world.

HIS Hair Clinic is proud to be recognized as the FIRST company to specialize in cosmetic and medical SMP. We spent many years developing our technique as an effective, innovation non-surgical treatment for hair loss sufferers.  SMP results leave you with the look of micro hairs that replicate real hair, creating a natural “buzzed” hair style, perfect for modern, stylish men or restoring the appearance of fullness and density for women suffering from diffuse hair loss.

Is SMP Scalp Micropigmentation a hair tattoo?

Yes and No. SMP or Scalp Micropigmentation is often referred as Hair Tattoo. However, SMP is nothing like a regular tattoo. Scalp micropigmentation requires the technician to apply the specialized technique using a multitude of different needle sizes, penetration depths, angles, pigment colours and distribution rates depending on the specific area of the scalp being treated at the time, the skin tone of the individual and the desired final appearance. SMP needles do not penetrate as deeply as with a standard tattoo and our specialized and tested pigments, not tattoo inks that change colour over time. We use computer controlled microfine needles in triple clusters to achieve the guaranteed consistency of results that SMP scalp micropigmentation demands.

What is SMP Scalp Micropigmentation?

SMP was developed as both a cosmetic procedure, for men and women suffering with all types of hair loss, and as a medical procedure to help conceal scars, burns and birthmarks, as well as the full spectrum of alopecia strains.

During a SMP procedure, a blend of specialist pigments specifically formulated for the client are deposited into the dermal layer of the skin on the scalp.  Using a highly sophisticated combination of angles, penetration depths, deposit sizes and pigment shades, these deposits create an extremely realistic illusion that replicates hair follicles.

SMP is truly viable alternative to traditional hair transplant surgery, hair systems, pills, potions and cover-ups. Around the world, many thousands of clients now live their lives free from hair loss without scarring, lengthy maintenance routines, unwelcome side effects or significant ongoing financial outlay.

SMP is used to treat

  • Male pattern baldness
  • Receding hairline
  • Hair transplant scars
  • Alopecia

 Who invented SMP?

Mr. Ian Watson, Co-Founder and Director of HIS hair Clinic, suffered from alopecia due to the stress of losing his brother to cancer.  After researching all the hair loss options available, he concluded non were suitable for him.

Following several years of intensive research and honing the technique alongside some of the world’s most respected hair loss experts and micropigmentation practitioners in Harley Street, London and Melbourne, Australia, SMP was established.

Today HIS Hair have SMP clinics all around the world. WHAT IS SMP® SCALP MICROPIGMENTATION?

SMP® scalp micropigmentation is a specialized technique whereby individual dots of pigment are tattooed into the scalp to mimic the look of real hair follicles.

SMP® is also known as hair tattoo, but it is nothing like a regular tattoo.  Scalp micropigmentation does not penetrate your skin as deeply as traditional tattooing. Unlike tattoo ink, it also retains its colour, so years from now, the colour will remain the same. The colour of the tattoo is matched to your hair colour and can be touched up to match if your hair colour changes or if your hair turns gray over time.

SMP® was developed as both a cosmetic procedure, for men and women suffering with all types of hair loss, and as a medical procedure to help conceal scars, burns and birthmarks, as well as the full spectrum of alopecia hair loss.

SMP® is truly a viable alternative to traditional hair systems, hair transplant surgery, pills, potions and cover-ups. Around the world, many thousands of happy clients now live their lives free from hair loss without scarring, lengthy maintenance routines, unwelcome side effects or significant ongoing financial outlay.

SMP® is used to treat

  • Male pattern baldness
  • Female pattern baldness
  • Receding hairline
  • Hair transplant scars
  • Alopecia

The procedure was developed by Ian Watson of internationally-recognized HIS Hair Clinic in the United Kingdom over 17 years ago. HIS Hair Clinic is regarded as the best in the world for scalp micropigmentation.

HIS Hair Clinic is proud to be recognized as the FIRST company to specialize in medical and cosmetic SMP. We spent many years developing our technique as an innovative, effective, non-surgical treatment for hair loss sufferers.  SMP® results leave you with the look of micro hairs that replicate real hair, creating a natural buzzed hair style, perfect for modern, stylish men or restoring the appearance of density and fullness for women suffering from diffuse hair loss.

While some tattoo artists, permanent make-up practitioners and hair restoration companies claim to offer a similar service, they have not focused their effort and skill on this type of specialist hair loss solution.

All HIS Hair Clinic staff around the world are professionally trained and qualified to the same exceptional standards, able to perform highly advanced, specialist Scalp Micropigmentation techniques.  Each of our practitioners is trained to act with discretion and total professionalism for the benefit of all our clients, including VIPs.

Each practitioner has completed our intensive training program at one of our Training Academies, and has proven their competence, artistic talent and consistency in the most demanding and diverse situations. HIS Hair Clinic clients can rest assured that only the most competent, knowledgeable individuals perform our treatments.

In Canada, our technicians have been trained and certified by Ian Watson to perform their SMP® treatment for Canadian clients.  Our head office is located at 9140 Leslies St 301, Richmond Hill, Ontario, L4B 3L6.

Our SMP® clinics are not hair salons, beauty centre’s or tattoo studios.  We operate dedicated hair clinics with professionally qualified hair loss experts. We’ve developed our SMP® treatment using a sophisticated blend of creative cosmetic flair and science in the specialist’s field of hair loss. SMP® treatments are unique, the technique is safe, the results are instantaneous. SMP® represents exceptional value for money in comparison to other surgical, pharmaceutical and cosmetic hair loss solutions.

During a SMP® procedure, a blend of specialized pigments specifically formulated for the client are deposited into the dermal layer of the skin on the scalp.  Using a highly sophisticated combination of angles, penetration depths, deposit sizes and pigment shades, these deposits create an extremely realistic illusion that replicates hair follicles.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF SMP®

Realistic Results – 3D Effect

His Hair Clinic’s SMP® technique was developed and mastered over years of trials to create the perfect results. How the 3D effect is achieved is by doing two or three individual sessions instead of just one.

Immediate Results, Non-Invasive

There is no down time. After your first session you can go abouts your daily life. The 2nd session is scheduled around 5-7 days after your 1st session.  A 3rd session, if required is scheduled approximately one month after the 2nd session.

Permanent and Long Lasting

If you are looking for a permanent solution for your hair loss, then SMP® is ideal. After your second or third session, you don’t require another touch up session for at least 8-15 years.  If you’re out in the sun a lot and don’t wear sunscreen, then you may require a touchup sooner.

Cost-Effective

With other hair loss solutions, you need to continuously use the oral or topical solution for life.  Over time, that is a substantial amount of money you’ve invested towards your hair loss treatment. Our treatment is considerably less than a hair loss transplant.  Most hair transplants require at least three sessions, which is a very large investment. Our 3-session treatment is considerably less than just one hair transplant session.

Boost Your Confidence

We have seen the transformation SMP® has done for the thousands our clients over the years. There is nothing better to boost a man’s (and women’s) confidence when they have a new look of the illusion of hair on their scalp. SMP® as a great investment to boost your confidence.

SMP® is changing the way people from around the world combat their hair loss problems.  Whereas in the past the only solutions have been temporary (hair systems, concealers etc.), have had their effectiveness called into question or involve a surgical procedure, some of which result in scarring of the scalp, at last people have a viable alternative.

Thinking of getting a SMP® Scalp Micropigmentation treatment? This is a big decision and getting all your questions answered is the first step.  Why not give us a call, we’ll be happy to answer any questions or concerns you may have.

SMP vs Hair Transplant – Which is Better?

You are losing your hair and the hair loss treatments you’ve been using like Minoxidil and Propecia for your scalp just isn’t working anymore. What should you do?  There are really only two options left, SMP or scalp micropigmentation and hair transplant. Both are very popular, but is one better than the other?

Your decision would be based on three main things:

  1. Your budget
  2. Your hair style
  3. The amount of donor hair you have (back of scalp area)

Can You Hide A Hair Transplant Scar Using SMP® 1

Hair transplantation is the process of transferring your active hair follicles from the back of your scalp to the thinning areas in the front hair line and frontal scalp area where your hair loss from typical male pattern baldness occurs. The hair in the donor area does not fall out like the ones in the front, and thus once transplanted, will not miniaturize and shed.

There are two main types of hair transplant procedures, FUT or FUE. In FUT (Follicular Unit Transplant/strip) the surgeon removes a strip of donor skin where the individual follicular units are harvested and transplanted to the thinning area.  In FUE (Follicular Unit Excision), each individual follicular units are harvested directly from the scalp one at a time.

Advantage of Hair Transplant

  1. It’s permanent. Once you’ve completed two to three transplant sessions, if done by a good hair transplant surgeon, your hair should look completely natural.

Disadvantage of Hair Transplant

  1. Costly: On average between $10,000-$15,000 depending on how many sessions you require and the type of hair transplant you choose (FUE or FUT). You can find cheaper surgeons, eg. in Turkey, but still need to pay for flight and hotel and go back more than once.
  2. Invasive: This is a surgical procedure and with any surgeries there could be complications.
  3. Scarring: There is scarring on the back of your scalp where the donor hair was harvested. This may be fine if you wear your hairstyle long, however if you want short hair or have the buzz cut look, then both types of scarring (strip and pitting) can be seen.
  4. Down Time: Because it is surgery, you will need to take some time off work for the healing process to take place.
  5. Hair Shock Loss: It’s a term that happens to your hair after the hair transplant. Shock hair loss usually happens between two to eight weeks after a hair transplant, when your new hair grafts enter a resting phase and the hairs are shed.
  6. Multiple Sessions required: Depending on how much hair you’ve lost; you may need anywhere from two to three sessions to complete your hair transplant. In an average hair transplant, between 500 to 2500 grafts are harvested and planted in a single session. However, if more grafts are needed, then at least two sessions are required, normally spaced six months apart. So, in the interim you’d need to settle for a half finished look for many months or even longer.
  7. Not enough donor hair. This is perhaps the most disadvantage issue with hair transplant. If you don’t have enough donor hair, it will lead to poor results. It will look half-finished and not the thicker looking hair you had hoped for. If you are in the process of losing your hair, the problem is you don’t know exactly how much more your hair is going to recede. Transplanting hairs from the back of the scalp that may still recede will eventually miniaturize and fall out in the front.

If you’ve already lost most of your hair and have a good idea no more is going to fall out, then the hair transplant surgeon can give you a good assessment as to whether you have enough donor hair to complete a successful hair transplant.  If you don’t, then SMP scalp micropigmentation is really the only other alternative, unless you want to wear a hair system (toupee or wig).

So, what is SMP?  SMP, or Scalp Micropigmentation for short, is the process of applying individual dots of inks into the scalp to replicate hair follicles. If done by a well-trained technician, the results look like real natural hair follicles even at close range.

Advantage of SMP Scalp Micropigmentation

  1. Affordable: (compared to hair transplant). Cost range on average from $3000-$5000 depending on the area of scalp that needs to be done.
  2. Non-Surgical: The needle for SMP is much smaller than traditional tattoo needles. Also, the depth of penetration is not as deep as a traditional tattoos. So little or less pain than regular tattoos.
  3. Can hide scars left from hair transplants. If you’ve done previous hair transplants, and don’t have enough donor hair, or you just want to change your hair style to the buzz cut look, SMP can do a great job in hiding scars left over from hair transplants.
  4. Little or No Down Time: A typical SMP session takes anywhere from 1-3 hours. Afterwards you can go abouts your regular day. Some redness on the scalp is typical but compared to a hair transplant, you don’t need to stay home for many days or weeks.
  5. Can be done on scalp with existing hair to make it appear thicker. This is good for women who may experience thinning hair, but still retain their frontal hair lines.
  6. SMP Scalp Micropigmentation is a permanent solution to hair loss. A touch up is usually not required for at least 8-10 years.
  7. Most SMP clients are very happy with their results. Imagine not having a frontal hair line for many years and suddenly you have a new look with a hair line and full coverage to your scalp. Your appearance and confidence level will soar.

Disadvantages of SMP

  1. SMP Scalp Micropigmentation requires you to wear your hair in a semi-shaven buzz cut look. If you don’t like this look, then it may not be for you.
  2. SMP requires two to three sessions. In order to achieve a 3D look, two or three sessions are required. Stay away from any SMP clinic claiming they can do the complete procedure in just one treatment. The first and second sessions are spaced out about one week apart. A third one (if required) can be done two to four weeks after the second one.  The first session lays out a lighter pigmentation and slightly higher hairline. This allows the scalp to heal, to see how much of the pigmentation is absorbed into the scalp.  Based on the outcome of the first session, the technician will increase the pigmentation and move the hairline down some more if the client prefers.
  3. SMP requires you to wear sunscreen on your scalp. If you are outdoors often, then a good sunscreen is needed to protect your investment from the damaging UV rays of the sun. If you don’t go out in the sun often, they you most likely would not require a touch up for at least ten to twenty years.

So, which is better? Scalp Micropigmentation or Hair Transplant?  Both are good, and both have their advantages and disadvantages.

Hairtattoo.ca technicians have been trained by internationally recognized Ian Watson of HIS Hair Clinic in United Kingdom, the originator of the SMP process over 17 years ago. They are widely regarded as the best in the world.

IS SMP® SCALP MICROPIGMENTATION NOTICEABLE?

The main fear for most people considering getting a SMP® Scalp Micropigmentation procedure is the fear that people will notice it.

This is a common question we get at HairTatto.ca, one of Toronto’s top scalp micropigmentation specialist clinics.  People want and expect an excellent result, so choosing the right clinic to perform the SMP® procedure is very important to the result you will obtain.

What is SMP® and what it isn’t?  SMP® is short for scalp micropigmentation. It is the process of applying tiny dots of pigment into the scalp to mimic the look of real hair follicles.  It is a permanent hair loss solution for both men and women.

Although SMP® is often called a hair tattoo, it is nothing like a tattoo. Scalp micropigmentation does not penetrate the skin as deeply as a regular tattoo.  Traditional tattoos lose their colour over the years. SMP® scalp micropigmentation specialized, and tested pigments retains its colour and will remain the same colour in the future.

The procedure involves a specialized technique using a multitude of different needle sizes, angles, penetration depths, distribution rates and pigment colours.

Therefore, SMP® is not performed by tattoo artists. It is a very specialized procedure developed and trademarked (SMP®) in the United Kingdom over 17 years ago by founder Ian Watson of HIS hair clinic.

The technicians at Hairtatoo.ca, having trained with Ian, have acquired the highly skilled training that clients expect and deserve for their SMP® scalp micropigmentation procedure.

Over 17 years has been used to fully understand, access and gain technical know-how and expert knowledge of exactly what happens to the treated area of scalp over this long period of time.  Clinical evidence and clinical trials were necessary in order to successfully take the innovative hair loss treatment from an initial concept to establishing a fully developed clinical process that ensures consistently excellent results.

There are two main reasons why our SMP® is superior to our competitors.  One, with our specialized pigment, they don’t degrade easily under UV radiation and two, when they do, they do not change colour. Our SMP® pigments are built upon research done previously by many different parties over the past 17 years to improve tattoo and cosmetic pigmentation ink. Because of this SMP® pigments are designed to be chemically inert, sterile, highly resistant to UV radiation and to decompose stably. This allows a client to wear SMP® in bright outdoor conditions for many years and when it fades, the client will not be the victim of a chemical reaction that leaves them with a blue Smurf head.

A typical client, depending upon their hair loss extent, will take two to three treatments to achieve their final appearance. The first treatment places a very light application on the scalp to access fading and density levels.  The normal reaction for most clients is to assume that the SMP® is too light and to be a bit nervous.  However, this is a normal part of the treatment, as the 2nd and 3rd layers of pigmentation will give it the realistic 3D looking scalp.  The 2nd treatment adds most of the density to the scalp.  The 3rd treatment if needed is for completing the look, addressing darkness matching or to even the density across the scalp.  Avoid SMP® clinics that say they can do the whole treatment in just one session.

At Hairtattoo.ca we do not offer tattoo or permanent make-up services.  Instead, we have focused on providing a world-class Scalp Micropigmentation service with enough artistic flair to create exact colour matches, perfect natural hairlines, and carefully constructed follicle densities.

SMP® Scalp Micropigmentation is changing the way people from all around the world combat their hair loss condition.  Whereas in the past the only solutions have been temporary (hair systems, toupees, concealers etc.), have had their effectiveness called into question or involve a surgical procedure, some of which result in scarring of the scalp, at last people have a viable alternative.

So, is SMP® Scalp Micropigmentation noticeable?  It all depends on who does it for you. At Hairtattoo.ca, our procedures are done by professionally trained technicians by the originators of SMP®. Even from just one foot away, even close family members cannot tell where your real hair ends and where the SMP® begins.

HISTORY OF SMP® SCALP MICROPIGMENTATION

Ian Watson, Co-Founder and Director of HIS hair Clinic, United Kingdom, suffered from alopecia due to the stress of losing his brother to cancer.  After researching all the hair loss options available, he concluded non were suitable for him.

Following several years of intensive research and honing the technique alongside some of the world’s most respected hair loss experts and micro pigmentation practitioners in Harley Street, London and Melbourne, Australia, SMP® was established.

Ian quickly realized that Scalp Micropigmentation procedures could dramatically change the lives of hair loss sufferers worldwide and set out to develop HIS Hair Clinic as a hair clinic with his sister-in-law and business partner Ranbir; the rest, they say is HIStory.  Today internationally renowned HIS Hair Clinic is known as the originators of SMP® Scalp Micropigmentation and regarded as the best in the world.

Ian was subject to the world’s first SMP® treatment, therefore as an ambassador for the technique, the results are there for all to see.  Since then, the technique has been tested and refined in order to be able to prove the treatment is completely effective, since regular tattooing inks applied using traditional techniques have the tendency to change colour and migrate under the dermal layer of the skin over a period of time.

This critical knowledge based on undergoing scalp pigmentation treatment allows HIS Hair Clinic to totally understand the long-term effects on the scalp.  The technical experience of HIS Hair Clinic is crucial and relates to preserving best results and how to successfully overcome the potential risk of colour change and migration underneath the epidermal layer of the skin.

While some tattoo artists, hair restoration companies, and permanent make-up practitioners claim to offer a similar service, they have not focused their effort and skill on this type of specialist hair loss solution.

Today we have more SMP® clinics around the world than any of our competitors.  We are therefore in the best position to offer an efficient and effective local service.  Each clinic treats a significant (and growing) number of clients each and every week, therefore accelerating the rate at which we are able to develop our technique even further.

HIS Hair Clinic Canada (Hairtattoo.ca) technicians have been personally trained and certified by Ian Watson. The same treatment that made HIS Hair Clinic an internationally renowned SMP® clinic is now available in the Toronto GTA area.

HOW TO MEASURE MALE PATTERN HAIR LOSS IN TORONTO AND GREATER TORONTO AREA AND WHY YOU NEED TO MEASURE IT BEFORE SEEKING TREATMENT

When you come to realize you are losing hair, in most cases panic will set in first and then likely want to see a hair loss clinic for consultation to start treatment right way to restore your hair. This is all well and good. While fast action is great to prevent additional hair loss, it’s always important from a professional stand point to first measure how fast you are losing hair before starting treatment.

Fortunately there are a number of classification systems that can help you measure the extent of baldness or hair loss if you live in Toronto and Greater Toronto Area. In Canada, the Hamilton-Norwood Scale is among the more popular scales used to by hair loss clinics and patients to measure alopecia or male pattern baldness syndrome.

With this, the Norwood Scale is very easy to use because it is based on a series of reference images that help easy identification of the various stages or levels of baldness in men. Based on the extent and patterns of your hair loss, the Norwood scale provides seven stages of classification which is referenced against an image showing a specific level and pattern of baldness.

Depending upon which picture matches the patient’s hair loss level and pattern; hair loss technician will have the ability to measures the extent of male pattern baldness and the severity of baldness and suggest the appropriate hair loss treatment for the patient.

At Hair Loss Clinic, We use AAPE Hair Loss Therapy to stop hair loss and provide strategies and options for faster hair growth in Greater Toronto Area.  AAPE is mixture of refined growth factors extracted from human adipose-derived cells conditioned media and induces proliferation of dermal papilla cells of human hair follicles to make hair regrow twice faster. We use AAPE rather than PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma), for Hair Loss, to increase total hair count etc. Contact us today at 647.492.9093 for a free consultation.

During our in-off consultation with clients, perhaps one of the biggest questions we get ask all the time is: Why Do I need To Measure My Hair Loss especially if you are already losing hair?  This is a great question, well one reason to measure hair loss is because it can be deceiving and in fact, we all loss a certain amount of hair daily, weekly, monthly and year. On average men tend to loss 50 to 100 hairs each day so if you notice your hair falling out in the shower, it could be completely natural.

The fact is measuring your hair loss is important because it will help you determine what treatment works best in Toronto and Greater Toronto Area.

NORWOOD SCALE TO MEASURE MALE PATTERN HAIR LOSS:

If you are a man living in Toronto or the Greater Toronto Area and believe that you are suffering from male hair loss, then using the Norwood Scale is a good to measure the level of your hair loss. The Norwood Scale has seven stages, ranging from minor hair loss, no hair loss to complete baldness.

  • Stage 1. Is considered the least problematic level of baldness as there is insignificant hair loss nor hairline recession.
  • Stage 2. Generally dubbed the adult or mature hairline. Here, the reference image shows a minor recession of the hairline, primarily near the temple region.
  • Stage 3. Indicates the initial signs of clinically significant balding with a deeply recessed hairline, in V, U or M shape, at both the temples.
  • Stage 4. The severity of hairline recession exceeds that of stage 2, and hair is sparse or absent on the top of the scalp or vertex. A band of hair connects the two bald areas.
  • Stage 5. Here, the area of hair loss in the two spots are bigger than in the previous stage. Although still lying separately, the two bald patches are connected by a thinner and sparser band of hair.
  • Stage 6. The bald areas in the temple zone converge with th bald zone at the vertex. At this stage, the connecting band of hair is virtually non-existent. at the vertex.
  • Stage 7. This stage signifies the highest level of hair loss with barely a band of hair skirting the sides of the head. Hair texture is fine, and its density is also very less.

PRP VS AAPE FOR HAIR LOSS, WHICH IS A BETTER TREATMENT?

PRP (platelet-rich plasma) therapy for hair loss is a three-step medical treatment in which a patient’s blood is drawn, processed, and then injected into the scalp. … Sometimes this approach is combined with other hair loss procedures or medications.

Because PRP therapy involves injecting your own blood into your scalp, there carries a risk of side effects such as injury to blood vessels or nerves, infection, calcification at the injection points, and scar tissue. There is also the chance that you could have a negative reaction to the anesthetic used in the therapy.

The AAPE procedure is safer, easier, cleaner, non-invasive, and painless. AAPE does not require any blood to be taken from you like PRP. There is no anesthetic required for the treatment. PRP in the best condition, contain 10-15 growth factors.

To Conclude:

There are a number of options available to you in Toronto and Greater Toronto Area to free you from the clutches of male pattern baldness or hair loss.  Some patients use AAPE Hair Loss Treatment while others use PRP to facility faster hair growth and restoration.

PRP is a process in which a quantity of your blood is extracted, then centrifuged and finally injected into your scalp. But for those who don’t particularly fancy the idea of getting their blood drawn and centrifuged for PRP injection, you could explore Advanced Adipose-derived cell Protein Extracts (AAPE) hair care serum.

At Hair Loss Clinic, we provide state of the art AAPE Cell treatment to clients in the GTA. AAPE is fast and superbly effective hair regeneration system that is popular in Ontario. We have 3 locations in Toronto, Toronto Midtown and Richmond Hill area to serve you.  AAPE is ideal for those who have already experienced a PRP treatment but are not happy by the results. Contact us today at 647.492.9093 for a free consultation.

DOES CHANGE IN WATER QUALITY CAUSE HAIR LOSS? 5 NATURAL TIPS FOR HAIR LOSS THAT WORK!

Many times, despite your best efforts you are unable to stop or control hair fall. You find that even the best hair growth product or hair loss treatment that your money can buy are ineffective and you end up in despair. Take a deep breath, and think clearly for a moment. Perhaps water is the culprit. It’s time to take a closer look at the quality of water you use for shampooing and washing your hair. People lose hair for many reasons and it has been found that the quality of water they use to wash their hair on a daily basis, is a significant factor in hair loss.

Let’s examine the different types of water and the likely impact they can have on your hair growth goals. While there are options like PRP treatment, let’s also find out the natural remedies for tackling hair fall due to usage of poor quality of water for hair care. There are certain types of water that are potentially harmful for your hair. Let’s take a closely look at each.

Chlorinated water:

For long, chlorine has been the favorite chemical agent preferred by local governing bodies and civic authorities to rid non-drinking purpose water of pollutants. Even the water in swimming pools is treated with chlorine. However, using chlorinated water regularly for bathing and hair care can leave your hair dry and subsequent hair loss. Before considering a hair transplant, it’s advisable to avoid exposing your hair to the water in swimming pools as well as water treated with chlorine.

Hard water:

In areas where water supply is sourced from ground sources, due to unavailability of fresh water sources, the quality of water is found to have mineral content – calcium and magnesium in particular. Such water is known as hard water and is not suitable for washing your hair or bathing without undergoing adequate purification processes.  When used for bathing and hair care untreated hard water invariably leads to hair damage such as dryness, thinning and breakage of hair. Hard water is also known to facilitate dandruff formation and damage the hair follicles, leading to alopecia and similar conditions.

Rain water:

Technically speaking, rainwater is considered the purest form of water and thus the most suitable form of water to clean and maintain our hair. But unfortunately, present day pollution levels are adding acidity and toxicity to rain water too. Pollutant-laden rainwater is a major cause of hair-related woes. Regular exposure to such rain water can result in itchy scalps and hair fall. The pollutants in rain water are also capable of weakening the hair strand and render them fragile.

Salt water:

Who doesn’t love the beach? The sand and the surf sure make you feel good. But the high salt content in the sea water as well as the ambient air are bad for the skin and hair. Prolonged exposure to sea water is likely to get your hair all dry and brittle. Cover your head when you enter the water and also rely on a conditioner for hair repair, post your beach side pleasures.

5 Natural Tips for Hair Loss Growth!

When we know that water is the factor behind hair loss, we can try a few kitchen herbs to reverse the effect. Some of these herbs contain the elements that hair growth vitamins contain too:

Gooseberry:

A rich source of antioxidants and vitamin C, gooseberry extract has been found effective in containing baldness and hair loss. Simply mix gooseberry juice with lime juice and dilute the mixture with water to concoct a hair mask for your scalp. Wash it away after an hour and see your hair glow and shine!

Fenugreek:

A common member in most kitchen cabinets, fenugreek is replete with components that are good for hair follicle health. It helps contain hair loss and promotes hair growth. A simple remedy would be to grind fenugreek seeds into a paste which can be applied to the hair. An hour later, simply rinse your hair in cold water. Follow this routine for a few weeks and you’ll be able to see positive results.

Beetroot:

Beetroot juice is loaded with nutrients ranging from carbohydrates and protein to phosphorus, vitamins B and C, which are essentials for hair health. You can even use beetroot leaves to care your hair. Simply crush the leaves and apply the juice to your scalp to get hair that’s smooth and silky.

Onion juice:

The high sulfur content in onion juice helps boost blood circulation to the hair follicles on your scalp. This helps rejuvenate the follicle growth along with reducing inflammation. Onion juice also possesses good anti-dandruff properties. Simply crush an onion and smear its juice to your scalp. Half an hour later wash your hair with a gentle shampoo to get rid of the odor along with the dandruff.

Coconut:

Coconut oil is popular as a hair oil in parts of India and other parts of Asia. While it may not be practical to apply coconut oil in all environments, the fact remains that coconut has the essential nutrients and minerals necessary present in hair vitamins. You could try diluting coconut milk with some water and applying the mixture to your scalp. After keeping it on overnight, shampoo away the scalp mask the next morning.

Solutions for Hair Loss:

The impact of water on hair is reversible and once you take appropriate measures you can expect your hair to regain its lost glory. But if the situation doesn’t improve, you need to evaluate treatment options for addressing the root cause with an appropriate baldness cure.

Today, techniques ranging from hair transplant to Platelet Rich Plasma therapy or PRP for hair loss treatment are available for relieving hair fall and hair loss problems. PRP treatment involves centrifuging a small quantity of your own blood and injecting it into your scalp.

But if you’re not too enthused by the prospect of deploying blood for a PRP injection, a better alternative, called Advanced Adipose-derived cell Protein Extracts (AAPE) is gaining in popularity.  A very effective hair regeneration and non-invasive therapy, AAPE has more than 500,000 satisfied customers worldwide. AAPE’s popularity is growing with every passing day. And if you have already tried out PRP for tackling hair loss, you still can try out the AAPE therapy.
