Is SMP Scalp Micropigmentation a hair tattoo?
Yes and No. SMP or Scalp Micropigmentation is often referred as Hair Tattoo. However, SMP is nothing like a regular tattoo. Scalp micropigmentation requires the technician to apply the specialized technique using a multitude of different needle sizes, penetration depths, angles, pigment colours and distribution rates depending on the specific area of the scalp being treated at the time, the skin tone of the individual and the desired final appearance. SMP needles do not penetrate as deeply as with a standard tattoo and our specialized and tested pigments, not tattoo inks that change colour over time. We use computer controlled microfine needles in triple clusters to achieve the guaranteed consistency of results that SMP scalp micropigmentation demands.
What is SMP Scalp Micropigmentation?
SMP was developed as both a cosmetic procedure, for men and women suffering with all types of hair loss, and as a medical procedure to help conceal scars, burns and birthmarks, as well as the full spectrum of alopecia strains.
During a SMP procedure, a blend of specialist pigments specifically formulated for the client are deposited into the dermal layer of the skin on the scalp. Who invented SMP?
Mr. Ian Watson, Co-Founder and Director of HIS hair Clinic, suffered from alopecia due to the stress of losing his brother to cancer. After researching all the hair loss options available, he concluded non were suitable for him.
Following several years of intensive research and honing the technique alongside some of the world’s most respected hair loss experts and micropigmentation practitioners in Harley Street, London and Melbourne, Australia, SMP was established.
